My Story
I'm not sure if its fortunate or unfortunate when we say "you never know what someone is really going through until it Hits Home", well for me and family, it just hit home.
People die everyday for many different reasons, from natural causes like old age, to natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, tornados,and earth quakes. But most die from health ralated complications like Cancer, AIDS,and Diabetes. Yes Diabetes it may not have the exposure of AIDS or Cancer but it kills and debilitates at an alarming rate with no regard to age, race, or gender.
My name is John Taylor I started the company Fashion4LIfe LLC. after watching my father go though multiple health changes after being diagnosed with Diabetes. It has taken me several years to complete this journey, well at least getting the company started, the real jounrey is just beginning.
Just like most people I felt the need to do something, anything take some sort of action when I first learned my father two brothers and sister were all diagnosed with having diabetes. But they seemed fine and in good health and spirits, so I relaxed and didn't do anything, not knowing how diabetes slowly works.
Many months passed mabe even a year with no problems or signs, all seemed well, then in the summer of 2008 it all went down hill fast for my father. He had a mild stroke, some months later he stared having heart problems and he needed a pace maker, shortly there after he started having memory loss and he was diagnosed with dementia and couldn't or wouldn't swallow his food properly nor straighten his legs. All of this in less than two years after being diagnosed with diabetes.
The hospitals did all they could do, so now it was up to us, his family his wife and children, thank god we are a large loving family, 9 children 6 boys and 3 girls. We took shifts taking care of our father 24/7 for over a year. The longest and hardest battle we had was keeping his diabetes under control. Even after being fed through a feeding tube direct to his stomach it was still a challenge controlling his diabetes. It was also difficult watching my mother go days without sleep, she turned him every two hours so he wouldn't get bed sores, fed him every four hours, changed his soiled diapers and almost never left his bed side. She is my HERO!!!
My father succumbed to pneumonia on December 15, 2011 on my mothers and my birthday, we celebrated another day of life and the beginning of a new life at the same time. It HIT HOME. Over the years I kept asking myself, what else can I do? and how can I do it? because you feel so helpless, I don't know much about the medical field and to be honest i didn't want to take the time to get into that field, so I asked my self what do I know? and it hit me the Entertainment industry, I know production from theatrical, to film, to concert and now fashion.
That was it, it was time to put them together and do what ever I could to support the health industry and mainly the healthy living aspect of the health industry, it was the key to living a longer disease free life. Diabetes and other diseases can be avoided and even cured by eating healthy, exercising, and watching your diet.
Fashion4Life LLC. is in the process of producing a one of a kind three day event, filled with music, food, fitness, fashion, and fun.
